The Nephrology Division at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal provides patient care, research, and teaching in various aspects of the pathophysiology and treatment of kidney disease. Faculty members are based at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal General Hospital. The Division provides consultation services in adult general nephrology and hypertension (in-patient and out-patient), as well as hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis programs at each hospital. Kidney and kidney-pancreas transplantation is provided at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Faculty members are active in basic and clinical research. Basic research areas include studies into mediators of immune renal injury (complement, lipid mediators, cytokines and signal transduction), renal cell growth, and physiology of urinary sodium retention. Clinical research includes studies on erythropoietin in end stage renal disease, management of end stage renal disease, epidemiology of chronic kidney disease, and treatment strategies for atherosclerosis in end stage renal disease.

The Division offers Nephrology fellowship training and Nephrology electives for medical students, and faculty members teach in a variety of courses at McGill University, Faculty of Medicine. The Division holds several weekly conferences, including Clinical, Research or Pathology Conferences, and Journal Clubs.
